“The paintings of Daniel Peder Askeland can be viewed in many ways, but they are always tied to landscapes.

Askeland repeatedly reimagines and diversifies landscape elements over time. His painting gesture ranges

from light and orderly surfaces to impulsive, raw brushstrokes.

Similar to topographic maps, his paintings depict abstracted excerpts, yet from an individual perspective and

distance, with diffuse perspectives and figurative hints.

His paintings do not serve orientation. The motifs want to break out of or into the format.

With contrasting colorfulness, Askeland defines places; Lurking in the forest is something unconscious, mysterious, a dark memory from long ago, a scrap of reality from a dream"
